Nice Glass

Hot Shop - Lino Tagliapitra is the older gentlemen on the far right

Friday in honor of Nonna's 60th Birthday, we went to the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. I really don't recommend this place for young children for obvious reasons. My sons did really well and there were numerous older school groups there. My sons however did really enjoy the Hot Shop that had glass demonstrations. We ate our lunch in there. The whole process of making art glass is fascinating and really held us spellbound. We were lucky enough, just by total chance, to be there when Lino Tagliapitra was creating in the Hot Shop. He is 76 years old and going strong. He is Italian and consider a legend in the early art glass movement. We were able to watch a video after the glass demonstration on his life. He had a great deal of influence on art glass world. We sat behind a glass blowing instructor there with her students and it really added to the whole experience as she was explaining some of the techniques they were doing. She also emphasized that art glass is about teamwork too. It takes someone to roll, someone to blow, and someone to shape these large pieces that Lino was creating. The Museum of Glass also has the Chihuly Bridge of Glass.
